3 Tips to make sure you actually want to rewatch your wedding film

We hear it all the time - ‘Don’t get a videographer, we’ve never rewatched our wedding film’. And to be honest, that's a shame to hear.

We sincerely hope that we’re not contributing these sorts of films to couples, and that’s not the feedback we’ve had.

Here’s some tips on what you can do on your wedding day to elevate your wedding film.

  1. Don’t fake it. Be yourselves

You both have personality, and we want to see it on your wedding day. Your wedding film is only going to be as authentic as you are. This also extends to your bridal party - the people you choose to surround yourself with for the day.

This means that if you’re a bit more reserved, introverted and quiet, and your wedding is a bit more laid back, you’re probably not going to end up with a complete hype film showing a massive party with a full dance floor.

On the flip side, imagine you’re a couple that loves to joke with each other. Your impressions make your partner laugh the hardest, and when you’re with them, all you can do is smile. Now imagine your videographer is trying to get published in Vogue and all they want from you is serious, steel blue looks at the camera. You’d probably not connect with this film as much as if we just captured you both joking and laughing around, being yourselves.

2. Give your timeline some space

Crafting your timeline is its own conversation, but especially before and after your big moments, make sure you allow some space. (Ie. before your ceremony, reception entrance etc).

This will help you feel less stressed on the day, you won’t feel as rushed, but it also gives your videographer time to capture your day unfolding. This is one of our mantras at Yuneq - your wedding day is only your wedding day because of who you’ve chosen to have here with you. If you wanted to, you could go to the courthouse and get married, or plan an intimate elopement, but you’ve chosen to invite your friends and family to celebrate with you. These people should absolutely be featured in your film.

3. Communicate with your videographer

Or maybe this one should be for videographers - communicate with your couples!

One question we love to ask our couples at some point in their journey with us is ‘what part of the day are you most excited about or looking forward to?’ This gives us a clear focus for the day and tells us what to expect. Obviously we’re still capturing everything else but if you tell us that you’re excited to see your bride walk down the aisle, then we might put a bit more emphasis on how that is filmed. And the same goes if you tell us you just can’t wait to party with everyone then we’re going to make sure we capture the energy of the reception as best we can.

Ultimately, creating a wedding film is a collaboration with you, the couple. We want to hear from you what you actually want to see. We want to know what moments are going to resonate with you and what you’re only doing so your grandparents could see that.
