5 Wedding venues we’ve filmed at and LOVED
Wedding planning doesn’t have to be stressful. Maybe you’ve been curating your pinterest boards for 10 years, or maybe you have no idea what you envision for your wedding day. Regardless, we hope that this list can help with your decision on what is ultimately the backdrop of your wedding.
Old Broadwater Farm (Bussleton)
Style: Laidback, Rustic
Old Broadwater Farm is an all-in-one venue located right in the heart of Busselton. This is ideal for your guests as it makes it easy if they need to find accommodation as well as transport to and from the venue.
This was a bucket list venue for me to shoot at, and I got my first opportunity at the end of 2024 and second opportunity in August of 2025.
Probably my favourite aspect of OBF is their cottages/accomodation you can use for getting ready the morning of your wedding. The decor and styling fits the vibe of the farm, and all of the rooms have great natural light which is amazing for your photo/video team.
The outdoor courtyard area is perfect for pre-ceremony, cocktail hour or even your whole reception. The team has done a great job of curating the space to be very versatile.
We’re always excited to be able to go back to Old Broadwater, the staff are great to work alongside, and it always creates a very easy aesthetic for the film.
2. University of WA (Perth)
Style: Elegant, Garden Party
UWA, while not being a traditional wedding venue, has some great spots to celebrate with your closest friends and family.
The Sunken Gardens is a great ceremony location with that lush green backdrop of the trees and bushes. There’s simultaneously great natural light from being outdoors, but with lots of tree coverage which means if you’re opting for a summer wedding, your guests will at least have some shade.
UWA is also home to some pretty incredible photo opportunities. A wide variety of looks makes it easy to get different feeling photos and videos all while maximizing the time you’ve allocated for portraits. Some of our favourites are playing with the architecture of the historic buildings and archways, as well as the gardens.
UWA also has St Georges College which is an open-air space surrounded by buildings and greenery. We’re very excited to be able to shoot there in November and add our thoughts.
Something to note with UWA is that this is a university, as well as a public space which means there are definitely going to be other people wandering the grounds. Ceremony and reception spaces are fairly secluded but be aware that while you’re out for portraits you might have an audience.
3. Solitaire Homestead (Naturaliste)
Style: Laidback, Rustic
Solitaire Homestead is very similar to Old Broadwater Farm, also located in the southwest region.
Solitaire homestead has a lot of versatility with ceremony locations. Ranging from lawn areas, to open fields and massive tree backdrops, plus more that the team are always changing and adding.
The shed is a fantastic reception venue, with great styling to fit that rustic/boho style and creates a great atmosphere. There’s also the lawn area out the front of the shed that is great for your guests to enjoy at any point of the day to hang with each other, enjoy a couple of bevvies, and maybe a game of giant jenga.
Our experience with the team at Solitaire has always been amazing. With great communication leading up to weddings as well as on the day, its always a treat being back at Solitaire.
4. Cotesloe Civic Centre (Cottesloe)
Style: Elegant, Garden Party
The Civic Centre is another one of our faves for the greenery and elevated look. The area is huge with so many different spots for photos and videos, both with lush greens and historic architecture to play with.
The open space is ideal for ceremonies and provides an amazing space for your guests to enjoy both before and after your ceremony. There’s so many different ways you can set it up, you truly can make it your own.
Similar to UWA, the Civic Centre is open to the public, so there’s likely to be other people wandering around while you’re there. We’ve filmed weddings there a handful of times and never had any issues.
5. Nedlands Yacht Club (Perth)
Style:
Nedlands Yacht Club is (shockingly) right on the Swan River. They have great open spaces so that you can plan your wedding, your way without having to fit into a certain box.
The water front makes a picture perfect backdrop for your day, and the clear roof marquee can be a great space to utilise especially for your reception.
If it's not clear by now, we really love open, outdoor weddings where your guests are free to mingle and connect with each other, and you can curate the space to be exactly what you want.
Nedlands also has some bushy/tree covered areas across the road that you can use for photos if you don’t exclusively want the ocean/boat background.
BONUS: Backyard Wedding
When we say backyard wedding, what we mean is a wedding on a bit of property. This isn’t for everyone, but if you live on some property, or have friends or family who might be willing to host your wedding, this can be a great option that not only can save you money, but it can also be a lot more personal to you guys as a couple which would create a beautiful backdrop for your film.
The one important thing you need to think about if you’re going to plan a backyard wedding is everything that you will need to supply that a traditional wedding venue might already have. Things like seating, tables, a bar, kitchen and even toilets.
If you’re thinking of having a backyard wedding, and you’re not sure what you need to plan, please ask us! We’re not planners, but we are more than happy to give you some input and guidance.
